My dental theory
by The Fall Guy inwhile enjoying one of my favourite snacks the other day, (hula hoops) i suddenly had this thought; if ever a metal nut is hard to loosen with a wrench, usually a a couple of sharp hits with a hammer is enough to break the grip of whatever is holding it - usually rust.
similarly, crunching on foods which can impart small shockwaves to a capped tooth could have the same effect and cause the hardened dental cement to fracture and loosen the crown.

Overlapping Generations
by JRK ini remember when that came out, my mother didn't catch it in the original article in the wt.
it was in one of the review "do you remember" thingies that she caught it.
she asked me if it means what she thought it meant.

Back when they actually responded to letters that we wrote, I wrote in about several doctrinal issues over the years, including blood fractions and the fact that the dates in the new Isaiah's Prophecy book just didn't add up.
When I heard the overlapping generation teaching at the District Convention, my first thought was, "That's crap!" I was also dealing with a very difficult family situation, the harshness of disfellowshipping and shunning family members, together with the hypocrisy of the elders at the same time.
The cognitive dissonance nearly killed me. I ended up in the emergency room due to over medication for severe clinical depression and PTSD. I was losing my mind. I knew I just couldn't do it anymore. I chose life with my family who had all left the organization over the hope of living forever in Paradise Earth alone without them.
I walked away after 42 years. The overlapping generation teaching was my tipping point doctrinally, but it took something highly personal to break through the indoctrination.

advice please/data protection
by Phoebe ini have just received an email from an elder's wife regarding the new data protection laws.
between the lines it sounds like she has been asked to contact me.. she says they 'don't want to leave me out' so they want me to fill out the form as 'i'm still part of the congregation'.
also, my blood card needs updating, apparently.. the elder in charge will be in contact.. obviously, i'm not doing either, but what do i do?

Phoebe, so sorry, it must seem like you're being stalked! That was one of the reasons I eventually resigned from the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. So nice to be free of them all.
Don't give them any ammunition. If you are going to say anything at all, I like Freddo's response:
Don't sign it. Say no. "No I won't be signing that." is a complete discussion.

Dubstepped, I'm so sorry for your loss and how inhumanely you were treated by your family. Our situation with myJW in-laws is just beyond bizarre. Honestly, I wish my father-in-law would go back to the "necessary family business" model. My father-in-law didn't even have a memorial service at the Kingdom Hall for my mother-in-law. He believed that because she stopped eating and drinking that she chose to commit suicide, committed the unforgivable sin and is not going to get a resurrection. Isn't it nice that he has decided that he is God and has judged her as unworthy. He had her cremated and said, "Well that's over with. I guess I need to learn how to cook."
My husband just came home from a visit with his dad, and I can't even begin to talk about the sheer absurdity of the situation. Perhaps I'll be able to gather my thoughts and write a thread about it soon.
I do agree with dogisgod that we need to have our own personal way of grieving the loss of a loved one when we are not allowed to attend any services or be with family at the time of death. I had to do that with my daughter-in-law. She loved and celebrated spring, so I wrote her a letter and buried it with a newly planted flowering tree. It's what I needed to do.

Years ago they sold a circuit assembly hall in Monroe, New York to the Hasidic Jews. They also sold one local Kingdom Hall to a waste removal company and a second to an ambulance company. Flipping real estate flipping business!

Phoebe , It is cult manipulation at its finest. I got heartfelt cards from sweet little JW children. It sickened me that their parents would use them that way.

Boundaries
by AllTimeJeff inthis post hopefully will get you thinking about therapy, along with good mental and emotional health if you are dealing with the traumatic choices associated with leaving jw's, or if you are considering leaving.
because it is a trauma.. imagine a married couple in their late 30's.
because they took last weeks watchtower seriously, they have decided to talk to an elder in their congregation because they have practiced oral sex on each other, and feel a need to confess and get "spiritual help.".

I have been referred for EMDR for treatment of C-PTSD and Religious Trauma. I met with the therapist for the first time last week. He has family experience with JWs (sister-in-law was kicked out of her family home for smoking pot at age 16), so he knows they are a cult. Not having to bring him up to speed on that is a plus. His first recommendation was to read Facing Codependence, by Pia Mellody. Card-carrying member of the club here with very poor boundaries. Second appointment is tomorrow, so I'm not having a good day today. I just can't keep going the way things are. Thanks for posting, AllTimeJeff.
